Fall is the prettiest season of the year, but it’s also a sign of an impending winter. It’s the time to prepare for winter and keeping your family safe on the roads. People often question the importance of winter tires, and yet they’re one of the most important vehicle parts when it comes to safety. Here’s what you need to know:

When to Install Winter Tires

As a rule, we suggest installing winter tires when the temperature drops below seven degrees Celsius. This is when you’ll see the biggest changes in your tire pressure and consistency, or feel. When your tire pressure changes, you’ll notice changes in traction and how your vehicle handles. The same goes for your tire firmness. If a tire’s rubber becomes softer or harder, you will see similar changes.

Here in Saskatchewan, winter tires aren’t legally required for any roadways. In some other provinces you will find that they are. If you’re travelling from Saskatchewan to BC for some reason, you need winter tires for many highways and mountain roads. While they aren’t legally required, with the heavy snowfall that we see, we believe that they should be. When winter is coming, it’s time for snow tires, not just Game of Thrones.
