As far as the auto industry is concerned, the Toyota RAV4 belongs to the list of some of the most iconic car models ever made. It actually made its first appearance as a concept car way back at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show. Who would've thought that its timeless design would continue to evolve and endure for decades?

Last year, the RAV4 had a major facelift and is now back with even more features. Let's take a look at the 2022 Toyota RAV4 and how it performs today.

What's New for 2022?

The 2022 RAV4 doesn't really have any major changes under its belt compared to the 2021 version. The most noticeable change perhaps is the more aggressively styled headlamps that come with every trim except the base LE model. A new Cavalry Blue colour is also available, giving consumers more options. This year's RAV4 has six different trims available, namely:

  • LE
  • XLE
  • XLE Premium
  • Adventure
  • Limited
  • TRD Off Road

The XLE Premium is probably the one that offers the most value for its price as it provides plenty of standard equipment that you just won't find in the lower trims. There's the power liftgate and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. As for the looks, the XLE Premium boasts faux-leather upholstery in its interiors while a couple of 19-inch wheels on the outside.

Performance Features

As mentioned earlier, there's not much difference between the 2022 RAV4 compared with its previous iteration. It still continues to use a four-cylinder, 2.5-litre powerplant. This gives the RAV4 a reliable albeit predictable performance. Expect 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque from it. Compared to its competitors, it's not exactly the beefiest engine out there, but it's designed for comfort and leisurely cruising. Despite all that, the RAV4 is capable of towing up 1500 lbs. with some trims even going up to 3500 lbs.

Your wallet can also rest easy as the RAV4 is super economical. If you're just driving around town, it will sip up to 9.5 litres per 100km and around 7.1 litres if you're hitting the road.

Style and Technology

The RAV4 is quite spacious, just like its predecessor. You'll have 37.8 inches of legroom and around 56.4 inches of shoulder room, making out one of the most spacious interiors in its class. We've already mentioned some of the best systems like the climate controls and the leather upholstery. Expect also heated and ventilated seating as well as a heated steering wheel.

In terms of tech, the RAV4 features a touch screen infotainment system that's compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay systems. There's the standard 7-inch screen with a six-speaker audio system that can be upgraded to an 11-speaker JBL setup.

Safety Features

Of course, any Toyota vehicle won't be complete without its state-of-the-art safety features. The 2022 RAV4 has one of the best driver-assist systems with its Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. The system itself comes with the following features:

  • Road Sign Assist
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Conclusion

Overall, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is a great and reliable SUV despite having very few improvements compared to its previous iteration. If you're looking for a newer and sportier SUV that gets the job done and can take you anywhere you need to go, then the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is for you.
